Front Derailleurs

16 products in our range

The front derailleur is an essential part of the wheel's gearbox when more than one front wheel is used. It controls the shifting of the chain from one front sprocket to the other, allowing a wider gear range, especially on road bikes, touring bikes and older mountain bikes. Types of front derailleur: Top Swing: The derailleur is attached to the upper part of the frame. It is lightweight and common on mountain bikes. Down Swing: The lower part of the swingarm is lower, providing more space for components such as bottle cages to be attached to the top tube. Side Swing: A newer design that offers more efficient gear shifting and better compatibility with modern mountain bike geometries. Clamp-on: The shifter is attached to the frame tube with a clamp. Direct Mount: the shifter is attached directly to the frame without the use of a clamp. E-Type and Braze-On: Special mounting types for specific frame models. Maintenance and selection: The front derailleur must be compatible with the front sprockets, gear lever and chain used. Correctly adjusted front derailleur ensures accurate and fast gear changes without dropping the chain. Regular cleaning and maintenance, such as checking the wire rope and housing, will prolong its life and improve performance.
